# Haul-out and launch

The boat comes out on a travel lift, crane or hydraulic trailer, gets a pressure wash and is blocked for winter. In spring it goes back in. We book both ends with the yard that stores it, or find a hauler if you stay at a private dock.

## What a haul-out includes

- Lift: Slings under the hull at marked points, or a hydraulic trailer at the ramp.
- Pressure wash: Growth and scum off the bottom before it dries on. Often included, sometimes extra.
- Block or cradle: Set on stands or a cradle in the yard, level and stable for the snow load.
- Spring launch: Back in the water on your booked date, often with a quick check that the engine starts and nothing leaks.

## Haul-out prices

- Haul-out or launch: from $8/ft each way
- [Mast stepping or unstepping](https://boatparking.ca/boats/sailboat-storage/): from $250 each way
- [Boat transport, local](https://boatparking.ca/services/boat-transport/): from $300 one way
- Bottom paint: from $30/ft

Starting prices in CAD before tax, from published marina and port rates and market estimates, October 2026. Your boat, the yard and the dates set the final price.

## Booking tips

- Book the date, not just the service: Fall haul-out dates fill from late August. Pick a date before the first hard frost if the boat is not yet winterized.
- Know your sling points: Many hulls have marked lift points. Tell the yard about transducers, shafts and struts.
- Empty the boat first: Take valuables, food and electronics home. Leave the keys and the battery switch off.
- Check the forecast for launch: Spring launch is weather-dependent. A launch date is a target, not a promise.

## Haul-out questions

**When is haul-out season?**

Mostly late September to early November in Ontario and Quebec, and earlier in the north. See the [haul-out and launch calendar](https://boatparking.ca/guides/haul-out-and-launch-calendar/).

**Can you haul out my boat from my cottage dock?**

Yes, with a hydraulic trailer or by water to a nearby ramp, then on to storage. See [boat transport](https://boatparking.ca/services/boat-transport/).

**Is haul-out priced per foot?**

Usually, from $8/ft each way, with a minimum charge. Larger boats, keelboats and boats that need mast work cost more.
