One total, same boat, same dates

How to compare boat storage quotes

Three yards, three pricing systems. One quotes per foot with haul-out included, one per square foot plus extras, one per month. Turn each into a total for your boat and the season you need.

Four steps

  1. Measure the boat

LOA including swim platform and pulpit, and beam. See how to measure.

  2. Convert each rate

Per foot × LOA. Per square foot × LOA × beam. Per month × months stored. Apply the minimum charge.

  3. Add what is not included

Haul-out, launch, wrap, blocking or stands, mast work, winterizing, power, tax.

  4. Compare dates and rules

Storage season end date, launch queue, winter access, DIY rules, insurance required.

Example: 26 ft × 8.5 ft cruiser

QuoteHow it is pricedTotal before tax
Yard A$60/ft, haul and launch included$1,560
Yard B$6.50/sq ft + $12/ft each way + $20/ft wrap$2,581
Yard C$180/month × 7 months, trailer lot, own cover$1,260

Illustrative numbers to show the arithmetic, not quotes from real yards.

Questions

Why do some marinas charge by square foot?

Because a wide boat takes more yard space. A pontoon and a sailboat of the same length can differ by 30% or more.
