Haul-out to launch, October to May
Winter boat storage
Most Canadian boats spend five to seven months out of the water. Tell us the boat, the region and how much protection you want, and we line up a yard or building with room for it, plus the haul-out, winterizing and wrap.

Three ways to store a boat for winter

Outdoor, on the hard
On stands, a cradle or its own trailer in a fenced yard, usually shrink-wrapped. The most common and the cheapest.

Indoor, cold building
Out of snow, sun and wind in an unheated building. No wrap needed in most cases.

Heated indoor
Above freezing all winter. For wooden boats, yachts with complex systems or owners who want to work on the boat.

What to settle before you book
Your real LOA and beam
Yards price by length overall including swim platform and bow pulpit, and indoor buildings check beam and height on the trailer. See how to measure.
Trailer, cradle or stands
A trailered boat can sit on its own trailer. A keelboat needs a cradle or stands, and some yards rent them.
Who winterizes
Some yards insist on their own technicians for engine work; others allow DIY. Ask before you sign if you plan to do it yourself.
Access over winter
Many yards close the gate from December to March. If you want to visit the boat, ask for winter access.
Spring launch date
Launch order is often first-come. If you need the boat by the May long weekend, ask for a date in writing.
Insurance conditions
Some policies require the boat to be winterized and stored ashore for winter. Check yours. See boat insurance in winter.

Winter storage questions
When should I book winter storage?
August or early September in busy areas like Toronto, Muskoka and the Lake Simcoe shore. Indoor and heated space fills first. A late request can still find outdoor space, often farther away.
Is outdoor storage bad for my boat?
Not if it is winterized, properly blocked or on a cradle, and wrapped or covered so snow does not pool. Millions of Canadian boats winter outdoors. Indoor storage mainly saves you the wrap and keeps the gelcoat out of the sun.
Can I store the boat on its trailer?
Yes, in most outdoor yards and many cold buildings. Indoor spaces price by length on the trailer, tongue included. See trailer boat parking.
Is haul-out included in the storage price?
Sometimes. Many marinas sell a package (haul, pressure wash, block, launch) and price storage separately. Our options always say what is included.
